Exact start location described so that someone else could find the same spot The start and finish area were located on the tank runaway at Thun, BE, Switzerland. It is was a 3.570 km round with 3 barricades.
What were conditions like?
The weather conditions were at the beginning quite good: clouds and a bit sunny, around 18 degrees Celsius and a little wind. Around 6 p.m. the rain started, between 7 and 8 p.m. the rain got worse. Around 9:30 p.m. the wind got stronger, and the temperatures dropped to 10 – 12 degrees. I decided to make a short break to change my clothes. During the break a thunderstorm started. Because of safety, the Officials decided to stop the attempt for 21 minutes and 14 seconds. After that break I continued, but I had to wear rain clothes and change my bike. At midnight the rain stopped for about half an hour and started again. Till the end of the attempt it was mostly raining, sometimes very strong.
Why did you want to do a record?
A new race format appealed to me. So, since 2019 I have been increasingly interested in 24h races. Due to the corona situation, however, various races had to be cancelled. So, we decided to put this world record attempt into practice at relatively short notice.
The mental area was also exciting for me. Among other things, there were questions, how will I cope on such short rounds? How does it feel to drive more than 200 laps in 24 hours? Part of my preparation.
What equipment did you use? Anything special?
I used my Scott Foil
What did you eat & drink?
I drunk isa-pulver and eat Gels from Sponsor and Winforce, Ressource and Philadelphia mixt with milk
What was the best part?
As I got the 24h record I decided to do one further round and then I stopped, the weather condition was horrible. But I enjoyed the last round very much. And finally, the arrival was very emotional as I realized, that I broke all 10 records during my attempt. My Husband, Crewmembers and all my fans and so many people were waiting for me at the finish line, it was incredible.
What was the hardest part?
As the temperature dropped and the rain got so strong that I had to decide to stop and change my clothes, it was hard. And then, to continue the record attempt in rain clothes was not easy for me. But I told myself, do your best and don’t give up. They are other peoples the have bigger challenges than only the clothes.
Did anything particularly unusual happened?
Maybe the thunderstorm after 12 hours was not real helpful. Beside that, I was surprised of the attention we received in the national and internationals medias before, during and after the event! It felt like the whole nation was behind me and helped me pedal 24h. It was just incredible!
