The Douglasxtrail sports project was launched in 2017 under the name NDUT, which stands for Norman Douglas Ultra Trail. The route takes its name from the travel writer Norman Douglas, who in 1900 set out to explore the areas beyond the city of Naples. He fell in love with Calabria, a land rich in hospitality, culture and traditions. He wrote the world's most important travel book on Calabria, called Old Calabria. Beginning in Oceanside, California and continuing non-stop to the new-in-2024 end point of Atlantic City, NJ, the Race Across America (RAAM) is one of the most well known ultra-endurance events across all sports.
