Conditions: The beginning saw very low temperatures for June, dropping down to 6°C, accompanied by rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds. The second half of the month brought a drastic change with record-breaking heat waves, the highest in 106 years. During the day, my bike computer showed up to 45°C, and 28°C at night.
• Why did you want to do this record?: Records are needed to help and inspire others, to show that an ordinary person-not a professional athlete-can also make their dreams come true and reach the top. Because of this attempt, I am able to meet with ordinary people, as well as those who are sick or struggling with alcohol, substance, or gambling addictions, and show them that it is possible to step out of one’s comfort zone.
Equipment used: I rode an Orbea Orca M30i with a Shimano 105 Di2 groupset, equipped with an oversized pulley wheel system (OSPW) and TOKEN wheels (76mm rear and 60mm front profile). My backup bike was a SUPERIOR gravel bike, also equipped with an OSPW and TOKEN wheels. The bikes were provided by CentrumRowerowe.pl.
Food & drink consumed: Throughout the entire month, I ate wheat rolls prepared by employees of Inter-Broker and the Łysomice Commune. They were filled with cold cuts, cheese, cottage cheese, Nutella, bananas, and jams. I drank tomato and beetroot juices, along with dairy drinks and isotonic beverages.
Best part of the attempt: The best part was probably the arrival of my Asia in the middle of June, as well as the incredible support and cheering along the route from friends, local residents, and completely unknown fans.
Hardest part of the attempt: The most difficult part was the second day, and the absolute worst were the third, fourth, and fifth days of June. At the end of the first day, I suffered a knee injury-strained tendons below and above my right knee. It was an immense pain, to the point where I couldn’t bend my right leg or even put my weight on it, let alone pedal. It was a fight for survival with tears in my eyes and excruciating pain, with the terrifying thought that this was the end. Fortunately, on the sixth day, the pain started to subside.
Anything unusual happen?: On the ninth day of the ride, shortly after 5:30 PM, on a side road in the rain, a car approached me from behind. The driver followed me slowly for a while, then suddenly accelerated, hit me from the side, and pinned me against the curb. I fell and flew over the handlebars onto the curb. The driver yelled insults at me, telling me I shouldn’t be riding on the street, and then drove off. It took me a while to gather myself, as I was still recovering from my knee injury, and I additionally bruised my shoulder and arm hitting the curb.
