Congratulations to Ryan Collins for setting 3 new WUCA World records for these time and distances in this category: Solo, Male 18-49 age group on a standard bike

This was his goal going into this record attempt – but Ryan also came within only 2 min 57 secs setting a 4th record and breaking Marko Baloh’s very fast time of 3:48:41 set in 2012

I am sure Ryan could break that record too if he road only a Century – maybe another attempt is imminent???

100 Kilometer, 200 Kilometer & 6 Hour Records attempt

Name of Rider:

Ryan Collins

Start Date and exact start time to the nearest minute:

August 20, 2020 7:15 AM

Exact start location described so that someone else could find the same spot:

The intersection of Taylors Island Road and Golden Hill Road, across from the post office.

What were the conditions like?

Temperatures were in the low 70s increasing to high 80s by the end. 75% humidity.

Why did you want to do a record?

I wanted to find a challenge that would allow me to compete against top competition in a standardized format. The thrill of pushing yourself to achieve new heights and to race against your past performances excites me. Challenging these records allowed me to test my limits, preparation and mental fortitude.

What equipment did you use? Anything special?

BMC TM01 spec’d with Enve wheels, Wend Wax chain and Stan’s No Tubes sealant.

What did you eat and drink?

Performance nutrition planning by Dave Starr at Eat Drink Win and nutrition from Skratch Labs- Super Fuel drink mix.

What was the hardest part?

The hardest part was maintaining pace. Between the wildlife entering the road (avoiding fox, deer and turtles) the flooded road sections and a few turns, made maintaining power, balance and consistency while not dropping speed, or accelerating, the greatest challenge.

Did anything particularly unusual happen?

The early start also invited wildlife on the roads and required continual focus to not hit, or be hit, by deer, foxes and turtles.
