Attempt Start:

The attempt started at the Husky statue in front of UW stadium. Home of the UW Husky football and basketball teams.

The morning was near ideal. temps were perfect, no clouds, no rain in the forecast, not even wind beyond a gentle breeze.

I did this record attempt simple to be the fastest. Nothing really deep.

I took my team of Spiegel bikes and my Lauf Segula as a backup bike.

Unfortunately one of the di2 wires in the handlebar of my primary bike failed within 20miles. I switched to my TT bike but ended up switching to my backup bike several hours later due to the strong winds in the JBLM base area. From that point on I rode my Lauf exclusively.

I fueled with Formula 369 at 90-100g per hour within 1.25lts of fluid and at least 100mg of sodium per hour.

For me the best part of the ride was the last 20 miles. I have attempted this record a number of times and come up short each time. This I made it and once that became real to me all the pain and all the hours simply faded away.

the hardest part of the whole ride for me was simply dealing with the issues that are now part of cycling for me post major injury, nerve pain, fusions in my neck, broken muscles in my shoulder.

we did lose a lot of time to the big chemical fire down in Longview, probably an hour or more. There was just no way I was going to ride into a grey black smoke cloud that smelled like burning plastic.

The return trip actually felt like it went much faster. has several wahoo gps errors resulting in extra miles and a bunch of “where am I going”.

having made the turn around at the White Stag, historic welcome to Portland sign on the roof. Made the turn around at 8:24pm July 25th, about 2hrs late to break the Seattle to Portland record. Getting back to the start line, now finish line I completed at 11:50am July 26th. Just short of 30hrs.
