2025-04-05 Daniel McGehee WUCA Record – Rider’s Narrative Summary

Indoor (60-69) 6-Hour attempt with embedded 100Km, 100Mi, 200Km distances.  Dignity Health Velodrome, Carson, CA

Went back to Carson with significantly more time on the TT bike this time.  Didn’t really fancy the thought of 6 intense hours on a 250 track, but I’m not getting any younger so I thought I might as well do it now.  No matter how much attention to detail I gave to this project, in the months leading up, there are always a few things that get neglected, but for the most part it went as smoothly as can be expected.  My timing officials and support crew were awesome, again.  Greg Hemmerlin kept the sideline organized with his son Michael as – literally – the worlds best hand-off man.  Not too many endurance athletes are fortunate enough to have a Collegiate national cycling champion doing their moving handoffs! Fabulous kid and an impeccable job.  Having Bob Audycki on the sidelines was a real treat, as our friendship goes back almost 40 years and he’s a very lively character!

Once again, the official/timing crew was fabulous.  Larry Burns, Jason Kornetsky, Jeannette Burns, and Carrie Kornetsky know how to get the job done and have a great time doing it.  Their attention to detail is unmatched and I never fret that the times and lap count will be spot on.

I look forward to hitting the outdoor velodrome later in the year – hopefully in AZ, if the Tucson project comes through as scheduled.  In the meantime, racing in Leadville a couple times on the mountain bike bike for the summer, and still working to pay for all this fun.
