2026-03-15 LeRoy Collins 4x-team: WUCA Record Attempt

Roy Collins, Rick Wheeler, Steve Owens, and Alessandro (San/Alex) Speciale planned to set a four-person (60+), outdoor velodrome, standard road bike, timed 100K distance record while supporting the Velodrome’s junior track cycling development program.  Coinciding with another record event planned at San Diego, California’s Velodrome for March 15, 2026, our team’s event commenced at 12:58 pm with temperatures in the high 70’s and prevailing, but shifting, winds from the west ranging between 8-10 mph, with gusts to 12 mph.  The team executed a planned strategy of sharing the workload and demonstrated excellent communications while conducting individual transitions and adjusting team tactics to maximize results.  Two riders combined tri-spoke front and disc wheels while the other two added aero front wheels to their standard road bike configuration.  Water and electrolytes were sole fueling sources given the short duration and number of planned intervals for each rider.  The event concluded at 3:53 pm after recording 302 laps of the course.  The unofficial time computed was 2h55m.  Team “Velo Masters” is proud to have made contributions to the San Diego Youth Velodrome Program and showcase track cycling as a positive life-long activity.
