The Douglasxtrail sports project was launched in 2017 under the name NDUT, which stands for Norman Douglas Ultra Trail. The route takes its name from the travel writer Norman Douglas, who in 1900 set out to explore the areas beyond the city of Naples. He fell in love with Calabria, a land rich in hospitality, culture and traditions. He wrote the world’s most important travel book on Calabria, called Old Calabria. One hundred years later, our organisation has reconstructed the route, transforming it into a 1,280 km bike trail. From 2025, the project will be transformed with a new, simpler and more sporty name: DouglasXtrail. Not only will the name change, but the event will also be enriched with a weekend of entertainment in the area, as not all sports enthusiasts can stay away for many days. In this area, we are promoting a 24-hour race, which aims to create strong involvement in the national territory but also a great opportunity for an international audience to discover the beauty of the Sila National Park. People coming from far away will be supported in visiting the area on the days outside the race. The organisation will provide full support and hospitality.
