RESUMEN RETO
El día 5 de noviembre comenzamos con el reto de la ruta 40.
Estaba muy entusiasmado, muy preparado mentalmente y sabiendo que iba a haber muchos inconvenientes, pero en esta vida nada es imposible con entusiasmo y garras.
Preparamos todo y 5:50 de la mañana comenzó la aventura, era aún de noche, salimos desde el cartel donde decía La Quiaca a Ushuaia, ubicado en la avenida San Martín y avenida de los Estudiantes. Luego paramos y nos hicimos una foto en el monolito donde finaliza la ruta 40.
Las condiciones en general fueron duras, de los 21 días que estuvimos de reto, 19 fueron muy duros, sobre todo por el viento cordillerano. Al comienzo mucho calor en el norte, hasta 47º grados, muchos cambios de temperatura sobre todo en los primeros 500 km, debido principalmente a la altitud que estábamos, comenzamos a 3548 metros, a lo largo del día llegamos a 4600 metros y por la tarde noche se ponía un frío que después de las 12h llegaba hasta -2 grados. Pero cuando uno tiene objetivo va a por él.
La mejor parte fueron esos dos días que tocaron con poco viento y en lugares favorables. Uno fue desde el cruce de la entrada de Lavalle hasta Malargue, donde recorrí 345 km en muy buen ritmo, y el otro trozo fue al final del cruce de ruta 7 con ruta 40 que recorrí 465 km hasta Cabo Vírgenes que era el punto final.
Fue una experiencia genial y dura a la vez, tuvimos días muy duros, las partes más duras fueron varias: 1) el comienzo fue uno por la altitud, viento, calor y frío por la noche, 2) la subida al Abra del Acay fue también muy duro, 36 km de subida aproximadamente llegando a 4887 de altitud, acompañado desde abajo de viento en contra, 3) cuando fuimos por el centro del país y en el sur, viento lateral muy racheado y muy fuerte, por ejemplo en el tramo de San Juan a Mendoza, era muy peligroso ya no sólo por el viento sino por el tráfico de camiones y vehículos, 4) también de Bajo Caracoles a Tres Lagos unos 77 km de ripio con viento lateral que no avanzamos nada y el viento me iba barriendo la rueda delantera hacia el costado, era un duro viento lateral.
Lo más inusual para mí fue precisamente que el viento lateral me arrastrara la rueda delantera de la fuerza que tenia, y rodar tan sólo 5 km en 1 hora por los fuertes vientos.
Una buena decisión fue la de utilizar dos bicicletas, una mountain bike y otra de carretera, eso permitió adelantar más, muchos me preguntaron por qué no llevé una gravel, pero es que el terreno no está preparado para una de ellas, muchas piedras sueltas, colchones de arena y demás dificultades.
El tema de las provisiones era muy difícil, al comienzo lo hice con lo habitual, recuperadores y bebidas isotónicas, acompañado de alimentos normales. Pero vi que no me resultaba, así que opté por lo que hago siempre, tirar de lo natural, proteínas e hidratos, de fiambres, galletitas dulce y saladas.
Realmente muy feliz de conseguirlo a pesar de los inconvenientes y trabas que tuve por el camino. Sigo sosteniendo que en este tipo de pruebas un 80% es la cabeza.
Quise hacer el record porque me gustan los desafíos conmigo mismo, se que era un record complicado pero no imposible, y de hecho ya estoy planeando para 2023 batir mi propio récord y concluir también el de la ciudad más al norte hasta la ciudad más al sur, que me quedó pendiente.
Objetivo cumplido, de La Quiaca al punto final exacto que fue Cabo Vírgenes donde pegado al faro se encuentra el cartel KM 0.
El tiempo exacto fue 507:58:15 eso equivale a 21 días 2 horas 48 minutos 15 segundos.
Con una distancia de 5.174,87 km y un ascenso de 41.648 metros
A por el 2023 que nos espera!!!!

RIDER’S SUMMARY
On November the 5TH, we started with the challenge of Route 40.
I was very enthusiastic, very mentally prepared and knowing that there will be many inconveniences, but in this life nothing is impossible with enthusiasm and claws.
We prepared everything and 5:50 in the morning the adventure started, it was still night, we departure from the sign that said “La Quiaca to Ushuaia”, located on “Avenida San Martín” and “Avenida de los Estudiantes”. Then we stopped and took a photo at the monolith where Route 40 ends.
The conditions in general were tough, of the 21 days we were challenged, 19 were very tough, especially due to the mountain wind. At the beginning it was very hot in the north, up to 47º degrees, many changes in temperature especially in the first 500 km, mainly due to the altitude we were at, we started at 3548 meters, throughout the day we reached 4600 meters and in the afternoon and night it was very cold reaching -2 degrees after midnight. But when you have a goal, you go for it.
The best part was those two days that played with little wind and in favorable places. One was from the intersection of the “Lavalle” entrance to “Malargue”, where I traveled 345 km at a very good pace, and the other section was at the end of the junction of route 7 with route 40 that I traveled 465 km to “Cabo Vírgenes”, which was the final point.
It was a great and hard experience at the same time, we had very hard days, the hardest parts were several: 1) the beginning was one due to the altitude, wind, heat and cold at night, 2) the climb to “Abra del Acay” was also very hard, 36 km of climb approximately reaching 4887 of altitude, accompanied from below by a headwind, 3) when we went through the center of the country and in the south, very gusty and very strong side wind, for example in the section from “San Juan” to “Mendoza”, it was very dangerous, not only because of the wind, but also because of the traffic of trucks and vehicles, 4) also from “Bajo Caracoles” to “Tres Lagos” about 77 km of gravel with a side wind that we did not advance at all, and the wind was leaving me sweeping the front wheel to the side, it was a hard crosswind.
The most unusual thing for me was precisely that the side wind dragged my front wheel with the force it had, and I only traveled 5 km in 1 hour due to the strong winds.
A good decision was to use two bicycles, a mountain bike and a road bike, that allowed us to overtake more, many asked me why I did not use a gravel, but the terrain is not prepared for one of them, many loose stones, sand mattresses and other difficulties.
The issue of provisions was very difficult, at the beginning I did it with the usual, recoveries and isotonic drinks, accompanied by normal food. But I saw that it did not work for me, so I opted for what I always do, throwing in the natural, proteins and carbohydrates, cold cuts, sweet and savory cookies.
Really very happy to get it, in despite of the inconveniences and obstacles that I had along the way. I still maintain that in this type of challenges 80% is your mind.
I wanted to make the record because I like challenges against myself, I know it was a complicated record but not impossible, and in fact I am already planning for 2023 to beat my own record, and also finish the one from the northernmost city to the southernmost city , which was pending. I know that with another weather conditions (other dates) and a more complete team, I can do it much better.
Objective accomplished, from La Quiaca to the exact end point that was Cabo Vírgenes, where next to the lighthouse is the KM 0 sign.
The exact time was 507: 58: 15 that is 21 days, 2 hours, 48 minutes and 15 seconds.
With a distance of 5,174.87 km and an ascent of 41,648 meters
