On July 18th, things heat up on the Nürburgring. Road cyclists, mountain bikers, racers and 24-hour cyclists… they can all let off steam on the Formula 1 asphalt today. It is recommended finding a place to watch near the start and finish stretches, just a few meters from the stage and the Expo. Starting from 11:30 a.m. thousands of athletes will gather on the starting stretch for the Grand Départ. A popular and highly competitive event, run in the flat desert east of San Diego, CA. The course runs on an 18mi, mostly-flat loop, changing to a shorter loop for the last portion of the available time. The event often fills, so registration as early as possible is advised. (Note, while the name of this event includes the wording as world championship, it is not sanctioned as such by WUCA and the bonus points associated with that status do not apply.)
