Ride Report:
2024-11-10 WUCA Daniel McGehee Fixed-Gear, Outdoor Track
Wind was not kind. Cervelo T3 Fixed-Gear with 60/17. First 100K was the toughest winds, with gusts predicted up to 13 but ended up closer to 17. In addition to being blown around, there were huge variations in cadence, ranging from 88 – 106 every lap. This had a very detrimental effect on sustainable power and wore me down faster than expected. Rear tire blew out approximately 66.6 mile mark – then a quick switch of the rear wheel, but the replacement disc had an 18 on it. Unable to hold the now higher cadence needed to maintain the desired pace, my lap times lagged and I watched the sub-4 hour 100-mile slip away with every lap. By the 100-mile, I was cooked and had to switch the gear to 60/19 for the last 24 miles.
Awesome crew and seasoned officials provided a seamless experience.
Crew: Michael Hemmerlin – decorated collegiate and AZ State champion was fabulous at the handoffs and keeping me motivated. Dr. Hefferon (Dr H) always keeps me in alignment, which is tough to fix when going in left circles for 5 hours. Justin Peschka – coach and friend that has helped me to maximize my training and wattage output. Jeannette and Carrie – the ultimate cheer squad, full of positive energy! Kevin Craig – a talented TT’er in his own rite
Officials: Larry Burns and Jason Kornetky – meticulous and thorough, incredible and dynamic duo. Thank you all!!
Huge shout-out to the boys at the Tucson Speedway, particularly, John Powers and John Lashley. Friendly, accommodating, and always willing to help. I feel blessed to have met them and look forward to working with them on future cycling projects and events.
