Davis racers capture 10 new records
Davis 12- and 24-Hour Challenge
“We all should have so much fun, you betcha!!!”
by Lee Mitchell
Ultracycling Cup Competition for ultra riders of the season
Davis 12/24 on April 12, 2008, another great day in cycling. Clear, cool, no rain, marginal winds, what more could anyone ask for?

12-Hour
Records set? Joel Sothern, the kid, 50–59 category, 220 miles.
Tim Woudenberg on a short bike, 208 miles. Was loafing.
Anne Schneider, mature woman, 170 miles.
Random tandem: Bill and Debbie Albers set a new mixed 12–hour tandem record of 162 miles. They still talk to each other, a week later!!
Day loop is tough — 165 miles and over 8,000 feet of climbing! Night loop is dead flat — 18.4 miles.
24-Hour
A great race between Brett Walker and David Holt.
Walker set a 18–49 record of 429 miles and Holt raced to a 50–59 record of 447 miles. Was fun to watch them!! Only one lap apart on the night lap after 24 hours. Walker raced RAAM in 2007 and Holt will be on the starting line this year. We all should have so much fun, you betcha!!!
Two other low boys — John Lauer, under 49, did 420 miles, all downhill. Jim Kern, more mature did 438 miles, also downhill.
Sandy Earl, from Oregon, pushed hard until the finish, setting a new record in the younger women's category of 356 miles. Plus 0.9 miles. Always had a smile and great attitude.
Another record set: Joe Farinha and Gary Franck, over 90 years combined, did 422 miles as Team Nutcracker. Neither of them can sing, but they sure can ride!!
Thanks to Patsy Inouye for putting on another great ride!!
